Hey forum,

Last season we ran into the "free player" problem. It seemed quite unanimous that this was something we disagreed with, and that we were hoping to avoid in the future. As this season starts, thankfully there don't seem to be any more of these players (thanks Admins!). However, there are still a plethora of players at ridiculous prices. It seems teams had resigned juniors to protect them last season, and then become inactive as seasons changed. I've since witnessed 74/17 RMs go for around 4M, 60+ GKs go for 3M and even a couple 57/17 CFs go for under 2M. I know these aren't players whose contract expired, and it's the manager's responsibility to monitor their players, but that doesn't hide the fact that we're still taking advantage of a loophole in the system. Clearly, no active manager would leave a 74/17 RM at 4M, so does that make it right to take advantage of it? Personally, I don't think so. To me it undermines the whole game. Whats the point of training a team and managing finances when you can just wait and buy a bunch or amazing players like this?

This being said, I'm wondering how everyone else feels about this (especially Admins). If this isn't a problem for anyone, or isn't illegal/punishable upon report, then one can't afford not to take advantage of it without falling far far behind. On the other hand, if we do think this is a problem, how should we deal with it? Who should monitor them -is it purely on our reporting basis?

Cheers,
Heidstra

Speak for yourself. I've had more than fifty of these players come through each of my Coach Secretary and Scout over the past week, and I haven't even considered purchasing any without running it by the forum/admins first. To me, taking these handouts makes the game less fun -and their certainly not worth having your team retained or getting a huge monetary fine.

This I agree with. Picking up a player with a very low hostile is one of the things subject to fine... That being said, the hostile period was well announced and known, and a lot of the players you saw were system bots. There were two or three notable teams that failed to resign players. I was very nearly one of them.

I don't think you will see any fines/penalties resulting from this.

I agree with OP on this matter and I don't think I need to elaborate why so, its obvious. But I totally disagree on the free players removal. There are tons of free agents signed in every transfer season in real life by clubs all over the world and having to splash $$$ for signing any free player is completely unrealistic.

I'm not sure what you mean by OP, so I'm going to ask you to elaborate haha.

I'm not arguing that there shouldn't be free players or that you shouldn't be able to negotiate yourself a deal -believe me, I'm all about creating as much realism as we can too. You're right, in real life players do go on free transfers (Owen Hargreaves) and for under their value (Cesc Fabergas, Samir Nasri -sorry Arsenal). That being said, you can't buy Cristiano Ronaldo for 2M and Lionel Messi for 3M. That's the way it is here, and that's why I'm prescribing it changes. It's not that the precedent is wrong, it's that it's being blown out of proportion and taken advantage of for reasons that can't be controlled (manager inactivity, double accounts etc.). For me, it's better we don't have any of these happening then having a ton of them. Having it the way it is, you could buy all the players Real Madrid does, but with the money Xerez makes in a year. This is completely unrealistic.
