When I log in to striker manager it always says it wants to read info from your google account. I always refuse as it does not give any details. It never remembers my preference to not allow.
If you want to ask me something , ask me to my face!

You must have registered on SM using ur gmail account. SM must have sent out or wants to send some information regarding your SM account to ur email id. Thats perfectly safe. Every game/ even FB / Twitter ask for your email id, just to confirm that its the same person who opened the account in the first place.

Second is if u have participated in any surveys or promotional events for free GBs they ask you to provide the e-mail id (same as the one u used to open SM).

If you click the login button with the google logo, it allows you to log in without needing a password. This is what you are doing, no? Read carefully and you'll see that google is telling you striker manager is requesting the name (not contents) of your gmail account. This is used then to link your gmail account to your striker manager account. In other words, it's more secure because you log into google only, and they use military-grade encryption when validating you. All striker manager sees is "blah@gmail.com logged in" 05/02/2012 00:05

I tried this and then you get questions about whether you want marketing mail - no thanks.
I put in my existing nickname - already taken.

So no thanks. Quite happy login in with a separate user/password.

You most definitely did not try this. I have no idea what you're clicking . What I do is on the login page, the first thing I do is click the white login button with the google logo. It then takes me to a white page at google that says "Strikermanager.com is asking for some information, log in with your google account." I log in with my gmail address, and then another page appears explaining that uk.strikermanager.com is asking for some information below is a bulleted list of things it is asking for. The only item is email address. There is also a checkbox asking if I want to remember this decision, which I check. Then when I click OK, the next page to appear is http://uk.strikermanager.com/inicio.php

On the next time I log in, I click the white button with the google logo and the next page I see is http://uk.strikermanager.com/inicio.php

Let's be rational here: you ALREADY give your email address to strikermanager.com. Are you really worried that if google supplies the same address that you will get more spam for some reason?

Buttons you don't want to click: "Sign In" or "Sign Up"

The Facebook login button is exactly the same process. Strikermanager queries Facebook to get your email address and uses that to connect you to your account.

The protocol is called OpenID and you can read about it on Wikipedia for more info.

No, it definitely asks me to register again. I would send you a screenshot but this forum does not allow. The login control looks like:

USER REGISTRATION

Nickname:
__________
E-mail:
..[filled with gmail.com]

[NEXT ] [CANCEL]

As my login is saved anyway, it's no trouble to login with the existing id.

It is only technology called OpenID. You don`t have to worry it won`t hurt you. Your password validation is done on google side so don`t worry about giving away you password or account or anything. It only giving back some basic info you entered in gmail nothing else.
Here are some info about openID: http://openid.net/
