Messi Spoke.......

Lionel Messi is the greatest footballer in
the history of planet Earth, and he
scored two wonderful free kicks in
Barcelona's 5-4 UEFA Super Cup win
over Sevilla on Tuesday. But despite the
fact that he's an alien put on Earth to
embarrass humans at the game they
invented and love more than any other,
he refuses to acknowledge how good
he is. " I've just been lucky enough to
score those," said Messi, who really
needs to stop being so humble.
By the way, those goals mean he's
equal with Cristiano Ronaldo for goals
in all European competitions now.
Messi's played 19 fewer games.

Good of you

Athletic Bilbao defender on
marking Messi: "He's
almost unstoppable"
By Renato Goncalves @_Renato_21 on
Aug 13, 2015, 10:00a
ollowing the madness of the UEFA
Super Cup in Tbilisi, Barcelona
returns home and gets ready to play
the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic
Bilbao. And one player from the
opponent is not exactly looking
forward to the game.
Defender Mikel Balenziaga was
assigned as an individual marker to
stop Lionel Messi on last May's Copa del
Rey Final between Barça and Los
Leones at the Camp Nou. Just 20
minutes in, he was completely
destroyed by the Argentine, and he
was one of the Bilbao players left
behind in one of Messi's signature
career goals.
Speaking to the press following
Ahtletic's training session to prepare
for the first leg of the Super Cup, to be
played on Friday at San Mamés,
Balenziaga commented on that iconic
final, how difficult it is to defend Messi,
and what he expects ahead of the two
meetings with the Blaugrana.
Here's a few highlights:
"I learned we had to have
a plan for more than 90
minutes and he still proved
to be a player of another
level.
"I don’t mean he’s
unstoppable, but almost.
We tried, we did what we
could, and hopefully on
Friday we’ll do a bit more.
"When we decided what
we were going to do, I
was excited. It was a
challenge, something I had
never done.
"I will always remember I
marked a player who is the
best in the world. I’d
repeat it as often as I
could.
"When Messi is in top form,
as he was against Sevilla,
he’s very difficult to stop.
But we can’t get too
involved and play their
game.
"We’ll have to be careful
not to make mistakes. If
you don’t have intensity
you can’t beat Barcelona."

Good luck on Friday, dude.

LIONEL MESSI FOR THE MAN OF THE MATCH 2015 SUPER CUP AGAINST SEVILLA

It is mere coincidence that Lionel Messi's
surname and the award he won on
Tuesday, the MVP, begin with the same
letter. Nevertheless, it didn't take a genius to
name the Barça striker as the man of the
match, crowning him the best player in
Tuesday's UEFA Super Cup Final in Tbilisi
after yet another dazzling exhibition.
"We are delighted to start the season with
this win, but it was tough," Messi said
following the game.
Messi scored two free-kick goals in a single
game for the first time in his career in less
than a quarter of an hour to help Barça
erase an early deficit. The two goals give
Messi 18 career direct kick goals.
He also now has three goals in the
competition, equalling the likes of Radamel
Falcao, Oleg Blojin, Gerd Müller, Rob
Rensenbrink and François van der Elst.
24 goals against Sevilla
Sevilla have long been one of Messi's
favourite victims and have now yielded a
total of 24 goals (19 in La Liga, three in the
Spanish Super Cup and two in the UEFA
Super Cup) to the four-time Ballon d'Or
winner.
But goals are not the most important thing
to the Argentine. "The most important thing
was to win the Super Cup to start well. Now
we think of the Spanish Super Cup against
Athletic Club," he said.
