Just make strikers LF CF RF smarter. Give them better finishing and make them much less likely to pass to someone offside. Too many players seem to rely on wingers to be their only source of goals this should not have to be the case. |

Right.. here is something like what i had written before it was deleted. For countering offsides, i think the strikers should be made more INTELLIGENT.. rather than dumb. Developers have tried to imitate the real world a lot. that is what they can do here as well. In real world, for countering offside trap, 1. The front striker, or 2-3 strikers face towards the opponent goal, and stay just behind the offside line. 2. The midfielder who has the ball, watches both the attacker and the defender, and lobs the ball just when he has enough space. 3. Now tackling from behind is very risky, and almost 50% of the time, depending on the skill (tackling), aggression of defender and ball control (dribbling) of attacker, is a red card offense. 4. Thus, the defender(s) have almost always got to run ahead of attacker and tackle. This is also possible as since attacker has the ball, his speed is slower. But in the mean time, attacking team also has some backup. 5. Now this 2 on 2 or 1 on 2 situation is resolved by shooting, dribbling of attackers; tackling, composure (leadership) of defenders, and saves and leadership of GK. Of these, i think only 1st step is a bit difficult to conceptualize, which i think can be done by the red (FWD) line. If that line is at the limit of being back, then the attackers will track the offside trap line very carefully, and almost always try to avoid offsides, where as if the Red line is totally forward, then attackers will be in offside position a bit more often. Similar can be done for defenders as well.. |

Your ideas are very well thought out sanyam and I like them, however, I doubt they will be implemented. The reason I say this is because while discussing alternatives with @rand, he told me that the idea of players not passing to those who are offside, and players trying not to get offside, were suggestions brought up on the Spanish server as well and he seemed to suggest that they were unlikely alternatives. Which sucks really. I think the idea of players 'knowing' when they are offside and trying not to be as often as possible, is the best idea. |

The main trouble in implementing any anti-offside idea is, that they dont want to kill offside trap alltogether. It is very tough to strike a balance. That is why i suggest that it is left to the teams to decide if they want to play anti-offside or not. the flip side of playing anti offside is that if the opponent doesnt play offside, the attackers will get the ball too early and will have to get past more defenders in order to score. |

Yes, everyone has the same game. Here are the problems: 1) the top 10 bug list has bugs that are 2 seasons old on it, and these were ignored in favor of the last updates 2) the first update (slow defenders) was put in to penalize high offside trap 3) the second update (stupid strikers) was put in to help ensure that teams who shoot more score more. In fact it made Offside trap MORE effective (reversing update 1), and did not have the desired effect (I've lost 2 games against teams with lower average strikers who took fewer shots by a large margin, and several other managers had the same experience). 4) the game is less realistic looking than it was before the updates. The ways to penalize offside trap are obvious and the ways to ensure more shots = more goals is the same: improve striker intelligence. Not remove it. 5) the devs generally ignore input and don't communicate changes before makin them live. In a game where long-term planning and development can be thwarted by a single loss, this is a big problem. |
